So that’s that. The World Cup is over. Brazil has managed to host an amazing tournament.  Some are calling the best ever but whether you agree with that our not, nobody can deny it’s been an awesome spectacle.

Germany have come away victorious and I have to admit, overall they deserve it. The 7-1 thumping of the hosts was obviously the highlight but they have been strong throughout and were immense in the final against Argentina. Schweinsteiger was truly awesome. Completely ran the game. Yes Messi can be amazing, the things he can do with the ball are beathtaking, but the German midfielder was by far and away the stand out player tonight. Never stopped running and was fighting until the end and all I hope for now is he ends up in the Premier League so we can watch him on a weekly basis.

So, congratulations Germany but who else were the winners and losers in this years Brazilian feast of football? Here’s my view :

Best Team: Has to be Germany. They were solid throughout and any team that can smash 7 goals past a team in the Semi-final of a world cup (let alone Brazil) deserve this accolade.

Biggest Surprise: Costa Rica. My adopted country. Nobody expected anything of them and they not only surprised everyone with the fact they got so far but they did it through passion and hard work…. Something alot of other teams could learn from.

Biggest Disappointment: There’s two for me. The obvious one is England. Not a great deal was expected from them this year but we all expected more than we got. Frustrating but maybe not a complete surprise. My second is Luis Suarez.

Arguably one of the top 5 players on the world. Either love him or hate him but we’d all prefer watching the best players and to take himself out of the biggest competition in the world through another act of stupidity let alot of people down. I’m gutted he won’t be in the Premier League next year…. It will definitely be alot duller without him.

Best Player: Messi had flashes of brilliance. Robben was unstoppable at times but summed up in the final I have to go for Schweinsteiger. Nothing was getting past him today, his vision was amazing and Germany would have been much weaker without him.

So, that’s my thoughts on another World Cup done and dusted. Feel free to share yours and roll on the European Championships… Another excuse to finish work early, stay up late and eat popcorn with the kids 🙂
